[Surah Al-Qalam 68:4]
Though every person who worships Allah is His worshiper, yet this title was specifically granted to our Prophet ﷺ There are many points in the Qur’an where Allah addresses Mohammed ﷺ as His worshipper. In Surah Baqarah, verse 23:
“And if you are in doubt about what We have sent down upon Our Servant ( worshipper) [Muhammad], then produce a surah the like thereof and call upon your witnesses other than Allah, if you should be truthful.”(Surah Baqarah 23)
And Surah Isra, verse 1:
“Exalted is He who took His Servant by night from al-Masjid al-Haram to al-Masjid al- Aqsa, whose surroundings We have blessed, to show him of Our signs”(Surah Isra 1)
Allah emphasises the importance of the person or thing by calling it ‘Mine’. Like he says,
“Don't kill my camel,”
to the people of Thamud. In the above two verses, two great honours are bestowed upon our Prophet ﷺ by using the term “my worshipper”. -
“He took His Worshipper from Makkah to Isra.”
The title of “My worshipper” was given to the prophets to ensure that they do not claim being the god themselves.
The Quran calls Jesus ibn Maryam as His Worshipper as well.
Every Messenger in the Quran is referred to as “My Worshipper” by Allah.
Typically, every devotee will call upon his deity in times of need. Such a person is also called Mutawakil .
We have named you Mutawakil - A title of the Prophet ﷺ in Torah
The reasons are; He trusted Allah in every difficulty; be it any hardship, poverty, fear or war. When he entered the cave to seek refuge while migrating towards Madinah, , the pagans of Makkah, who were in their pursuit came close to them. So close that had any one of them looked at their feet, they would have been caught. Abu Bakr was worried and said:
“What will happen?”
The Prophet ﷺ remained calm and replied:
“What do you have to say about the two whose third partner is Allah?”
This was a great display of confidence in Allah’s help. The two escaped and reached Madinah safely.
“Indeed Allah loves those who trust Him”
