Appearing Of The White Hair Of Rasoolullah
باب ما جاء في شيب رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم
Ash-Shama'il Al-Muhammadiyah 37
Qatada reports that he said
‘I said to Anas ibn Malik: “Did Allah’s Messenger (Allah bless him and give him peace) dye his hair?” He replied: ‘He did not get to that, for he was grayed only in the hair covering his temples, but Abu Bakr (may Allah the Exalted be well pleased with him) dyed his hair with henna and a herbal mixture called katam.”حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ بَشَّارٍ، قَالَ: أَخْبَرَنَا أَبُو دَاوُدَ، قَالَ: أَخْبَرَنَا هَمَّامٌ، عَنْ قَتَادَةَ، قَالَ: قُلْتُ لأَنَسِ بْنِ مَالِكٍ: هَلْ خَضَبَ رَسُولُ اللهِ صلى الله عليه وسلم؟ قَالَ: لَمْ يَبْلُغْ ذَلِكَ، إِنَّمَا كَانَ شَيْبًا فِي صُدْغَيْهِ وَلَكِنْ أَبُو بَكْرٍ، خَضَبَ بِالْحِنَّاءِ وَالْكَتَمِ.

Anas ibn Malik said
"On the head of Allah’s Messenger (Allah bless him and give him peace) and his beard, I counted only fourteen white hairs.”حَدَّثَنَا إِسْحَاقُ بْنُ مَنْصُورٍ، وَيَحْيَى بْنُ مُوسَى، قَالا: حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ الرَّزَّاقِ، عَنْ مَعْمَرٍ، عَنْ ثَابِتٍ، عَنْ أَنَسٍ، قَالَ: مَا عَدَدْتُ فِي رَأْسِ رَسُولِ اللهِ صلى الله عليه وسلم وَلِحْيَتِهِ، إِلا أَرْبَعَ عَشْرَةَ شَعَرَةً بَيْضَاءَ.

Ash-Shama'il Al-Muhammadiyah 39
Jabir ibn Samura was asked about the grayness of Allah’s Messenger (Allah bless him and give him peace), so he said
"When he oiled his head, no grayness was visible, and when he did not apply oil, some was visible.”حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ الْمُثَنَّى، قَالَ: أَخْبَرَنَا أَبُو دَاوُدَ، قَالَ: حَدَّثَنَا شُعْبَةُ، عَنْ سِمَاكِ بْنِ حَرْبٍ، قَالَ: سَمِعْتُ جَابِرَ بْنَ سَمُرَةَ، وَقَدْ سُئِلَ عَنْ شَيْبِ رَسُولِ اللهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّم، فَقَالَ: كَانَ إِذَا دَهَنَ رَأْسَهُ لَمْ يُرَ مِنْهُ شَيْبٌ، وَإِذَا لَمْ يَدْهِنْ رُئِيَ مِنْهُ شَيْءٌ.

Ash-Shama'il Al-Muhammadiyah 40
'Abdullah ibn 'Umar said
"The hoariness of Allah’s Messenger (Allah bless him and give him peace) was merely about twenty white hairs."حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عَمْرِو بْنِ الْوَلِيدِ الْكِنْدِيُّ الْكُوفِيُّ، قَالَ: حَدَّثَنَا يَحْيَى بْنُ آدَمَ، عَنْ شَرِيكٍ، عَنْ عُبَيْدِ اللهِ بْنِ عُمَرَ، عَنْ نَافِعٍ، عَنْ عَبْدِ اللهِ بْنِ عُمَرَ، قَالَ: إِنَّمَا كَانَ شَيْبُ رَسُولِ اللهِ صلى الله عليه وسلم نَحْوًا مِنْ عِشْرِينَ شَعَرَةً بَيْضَاءَ.

Ibn Abbas said
Abu Bakr said: “O Messenger of Allah , you have grayed!” He said: 'I have been made gray-haired by Hud (Al-Qur'an; 11)), the calamity (Al-Qur'an; 56)), the winds sent forth (Al-Qur'an; 77)). what will they question one another about?’ (Al-Qur'an; 74)). and ‘when the sun is overthrown’ (Al-Qur'an; 81)'."حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو كُرَيْبٍ مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ الْعَلاءِ، قَالَ: حَدَّثَنَا مُعَاوِيَةُ بْنُ هِشَامٍ، عَنْ شَيْبَانَ، عَنْ أَبِي إِسْحَاقَ، عَنْ عِكْرِمَةَ، عَنِ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ، قَالَ: قَالَ أَبُو بَكْرٍ: يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ، قَدْ شِبْتَ، قَالَ: شَيَّبَتْنِي هُودٌ، وَالْوَاقِعَةُ، وَالْمُرْسَلاتُ، وَعَمَّ يَتَسَاءَلُونَ، وَإِذَا الشَّمْسُ كُوِّرَتْ.

Ash-Shama'il Al-Muhammadiyah 42
Abu Juhaifa said
"O Messenger of Allah we notice that you have turned gray!’ He said: ‘The [Sura of] Hud and its sisters have caused me to turn gray!’”حَدَّثَنَا سُفْيَانُ بْنُ وَكِيعٍ، قَالَ: حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ بِشْرٍ، عَنْ عَلِيِّ بْنِ صَالِحٍ، عَنْ أَبِي إِسْحَاقَ، عَنْ أَبِي جُحَيْفَةَ، قَالَ: قَالُوا: يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ، نَرَاكَ قَدْ شِبْتَ، قَالَ: قَدْ شَيَّبَتْنِي هُودٌ وَأَخَوَاتُهَا.

Ash-Shama'il Al-Muhammadiyah 43
Abu’r-Rimtha at-Taimi (the servant of ar-Rabab) said
"I came to the Prophet (Allah bless him and give him peace) with a son of mine, who said: 'So I was shown him, and I said when I saw him: ‘This is Allah’s Prophet (Allah bless him and give him peace). He is wearing two green garments, and he has hair that is topped with grayness, and its grayness is reddish'.”حَدَّثَنَا عَلِيُّ بْنُ حُجْرٍ، قَالَ: حَدَّثَنَا شُعَيْبُ بْنُ صَفْوَانَ، عَنْ عَبْدِ الْمَلِكِ بْنِ عُمَيْرٍ، عَنِ إِيَادِ بْنِ لَقِيطٍ الْعِجْلِيِّ، عَنْ أَبِي رِمْثَةَ التَّيْمِيِّ، تَيْمِ الرَّبَابِ، قَالَ: أَتَيْتُ النَّبِيَّ صلى الله عليه وسلم، وَمَعِي ابْنٌ لِي، قَالَ: فَأَرَيْتُهُ، فَقُلْتُ لَمَّا رَأَيْتُهُ: هَذَا نَبِيُّ اللهِ صلى الله عليه وسلم وَعَلَيْهِ ثَوْبَانِ أَخْضَرَانِ، وَلَهُ شَعَرٌ قَدْ عَلاهُ الشَّيْبُ، وَشَيْبُهُ أَحْمَرُ.

Jabir ibn Samura was asked
“Was there any grayness of the head of Allah’s Messenger (Allah bless him and give him peace)?" He replied: "There was no grayness on the head of Allah’s Messenger (Allah bless him and give him peace), except some hairs in the part of his hair when he applied oil and the oil made them visible.”حَدَّثَنَا أَحْمَدُ بْنُ مَنِيعٍ، قَالَ: حَدَّثَنَا سُرَيْجُ بْنُ النُّعْمَانِ، قَالَ: حَدَّثَنَا حَمَّادُ بْنُ سَلَمَةَ، عَنْ سِمَاكِ بْنِ حَرْبٍ، قَالَ: قِيلَ لِجَابِرِ بْنِ سَمُرَةَ: أَكَانَ فِي رَأْسِ رَسُولِ اللهِ صلى الله عليه وسلم شَيْبٌ؟ قَالَ: لَمْ يَكُنْ فِي رَأْسِ رَسُولِ اللهِ صلى الله عليه وسلم، شَيْبٌ إِلا شَعَرَاتٌ فِي مَفْرِقِ رَأْسِهِ، إِذَا ادَّهَنَ وَارَاهُنَّ الدُّهْنُ.
